Brought up with his father's story, Evgueni decided in turn to come to Burgundy, to see for himself if what his father had said was true. Being of an energetic and determined nature, he undertook to found his own wine company in 1859.

Everything began with the father of Evgueni Louis Max. In 1801 his country, Georgia, was annexed by Russia and he was forced to join the troops of the Tsar Alexander Ist. On his way back to his country, he came through France and Burgundy in particular, and fell in love with it.
